The History of the original Laurel and Hardy duo

Laurel and Hardy's famous partnership began in 1926. Soon after this they were being hailed as the latest hot comedy duo. Originally starting with silent films, they made a smooth transition to 'talkies', winning an Oscar in 1932 for the short movie 'The Music Box'.

Born in Ulveston, England in 1890, Stan Laurel (Arther Stanley Jefferson) made his first trip to the USA in 1910 as a member of a comedy troupe that also included Charlie Chaplin. Laurel teamed up with Hardy in 1926 when they met at the Hal Roach Studios. Much of their initial work together was in silent movies, which critics claim was their best work however they moved across to talkies, followed by several feature films.
